Echelon is a way of ranking people or things in order of importance or ability. It's like a list where the most important or skilled person or thing is put at the top, and all the others are listed below in order of importance. For example, a team could have an echelon ranking of its members from most skilled at the top, to least skilled at the bottom. Or a company could rank its products from most popular at the top, to least popular at the bottom.
