ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Edge computing

Edge computing is a way of using technology to make sure that important data and computing processes occur as close as possible to the people that need it. It's like having lots of mini-computers in different places, so that tasks don't all have to be done in just one place. For example, if you have a smartphone, it will be able to get more information from the web faster if the small computer inside it can do some of the calculations and tasks itself, instead of passing all the information to a big computer far away to do the work. Edge computing helps to make sure that things are done quickly and efficiently.
