ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Fat client

So, imagine you have a little computer that can do certain things on its own. That little computer is called a 'client'. Now, imagine that the client is a bit chubby because it has a lot of power and can do many things by itself, like running programs and storing data.

This kind of chubby client is called a 'fat client'. Fat clients are big and strong because they have a lot of software and hardware resources built into them. They can work independently from the server, which means they can do some jobs without relying on the server.

When someone is using a fat client, it means they are using the computer's own processing power to do most of their work, and they only need to connect to the server for certain specific things like data storage or remote access to other machines.

So, to sum it up in a sentence that a 5-year-old would understand, a fat client is like a big and strong computer that can do many things by itself without needing to ask for help from other computers.
