ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Edmund Hamer Broadbent

Edmund Hamer Broadbent was a man who lived a long time ago and did a lot of cool stuff. He was born in 1861 in England and grew up to become a very smart man who loved science and engineering. He learned a lot about machines and how they worked.

When he was young, Broadbent found out about a new way to use steam power to make electricity, which was a really big deal back then. He became very interested in this and studied it a lot. He even wrote a book about it when he was just 22 years old!

Later on, Broadbent became interested in another area - something called "telecommunications." This means talking to people over long distances using special machines that send signals through wires. He designed some new machines that made it easier to talk to people far away.

Broadbent worked hard and eventually became very well-known for his work in these areas. He even helped to found a group called the Institution of Electrical Engineers, which is still around today!

Sadly, Edmund Hamer Broadbent died in 1945, but his legacy lives on. He was a smart man who loved science, engineering, and finding ways to make things work better.
