Electoral Reform in the United States is a process that could change how people choose the President and Vice President of the United States. Right now, we have a system called the Electoral College that gives a certain number of votes or “Voices” to each state based on their population. Then, during the Presidential Election, each state will give all their “voices” to whichever candidate gets the most votes from their citizens. The candidate with the most Voices from all the states will become President. Some people think that this system isn’t fair, because the candidate that wins the most votes from all citizens across the country doesn’t always win the election. To fix this problem, some people think that we should change the system so that the President and Vice President are chosen by the number of votes each candidate gets from all citizens across the country, not just in each state individually. That way, the candidate who gets the most votes from all citizens in the country would win.
