Electric arc furnace

An electric arc furnace is like a big pot that can melt metal. It works by using electricity to create a really hot spark called an arc.

First, a big container is filled with pieces of scrap metal – like pieces of old cars, buildings or machines. Then, electrodes are lowered down into the container until they are just above the metal.

Next, electricity is sent down through the electrodes and forms a really hot spark between them. This spark is so hot that it melts the metal in the container. Once the metal is melted, it can be poured out of the container and used to make things like new cars or buildings.

So, you can think of an electric arc furnace like a giant stove that uses electricity to melt metal scraps and turn them into something new and useful!
