Electrostatic deflection

Have you ever played with a magnet and seen how it can make metal move towards it? Similar to that, there is a thing called electricity which can also make things move. If you put some electricity in a special kind of wire that is shaped like a horseshoe, it creates a special kind of magnetic field. This magnetic field makes the electrons (tiny particles inside the electricity) move in a way that they push on each other.

Now, imagine if we put two metal plates in front of the wire, and put more electricity on the plates. This creates another kind of force called an electric force. This electric force pushes on the electrons in the wire, which then makes a kind of zigzag path. If we put a beam of light on this zigzag path, it would look like it's moving up and down or left and right very quickly.

This is what happens in a deflection tube, which is a device that uses electrostatic deflection. Instead of light, we put an electron beam in the tube, and we use the electricity to move the beam up and down or left and right very quickly. We can use this to create pictures on a screen, like on an old TV or computer monitor.

So, to sum it up, electrostatic deflection is when we use electricity to make an electron beam move in a zigzag pattern, and we use that to create pictures on a screen.
