ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Emily Martin (anthropologist)

Emily Martin is someone who studies people, but not just any people, she studies how people think and act when it comes to their bodies and health. She is called an anthropologist because she looks at how people from different cultures and backgrounds think and feel about their bodies in different ways.

So, imagine you and your friend both have a cold, but your friend's family has different beliefs about how to cure the cold than your family does. Emily Martin would want to know why you and your friend's family believe different things and how those beliefs came to be.

She is also really interested in how people think about their bodies overall, like how we view our organs or how we think about diseases. She is a bit like a detective because she is constantly researching and collecting information to better understand the way that people think about their health.
