ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Endurance (aeronautics)

Endurance in aeronautics is when an aircraft is able to fly for a very long time. It's like when you go on a long car ride with your family, but instead of driving on the ground, you're flying in the sky!

For example, imagine you have a toy drone that can fly for about 10 minutes before its battery runs out. But if you make the battery bigger, the drone might be able to fly for 30 minutes or even an hour! That would be a really long time for a toy drone to fly.

Real planes that are designed for endurance have different ways to fly for long periods of time. Some planes have big fuel tanks so they can carry more gas and fly longer. Other planes have really efficient engines that don't use as much fuel, so they can stay in the air for a lot longer too.

Sometimes planes that are designed for endurance are used for things like monitoring wildlife or checking on farms. They fly over and over the same area for hours so people can see how things are changing.

Now you know that endurance in aeronautics means being able to fly for a really long time, like a toy drone with a big battery or a real airplane with lots of fuel or an efficient engine.
