ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

English national identity

Okay kiddo, so you know how everyone has something that makes them special and unique? Just like how you have a favorite toy or food, countries have their own special things that make them different from other countries. The English people have something called a national identity, which means they have a special way of thinking and behaving that makes them different from people from other countries.

Some things that make up English national identity are their history, their language (English), their traditions and customs, and their love for things like tea, pubs, and football. Even though not all English people may have exactly the same beliefs or ideas, there are some things that they all might have in common. For example, many English people are proud of their country and its history, and they might feel a special connection to places like London or Stonehenge.

It's important to remember that having a national identity doesn't mean you can't be friends with people from other countries or that you think you're better than them. It just means that you have a special way of thinking and behaving that is unique to your country. And that's something to be proud of!
