ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

English-language idioms

English-language idioms are phrases that people use a lot in speaking and writing. Sometimes they don't make sense when you read them, but they mean something special. For example, when we say "It's raining cats and dogs", we don't mean that actual cats and dogs are falling from the sky! It's just an expression we use to say that it's raining very heavily. English-language idioms make conversations more interesting and sometimes more confusing!
