ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Envirome

Hi there kiddo, today I'm going to tell you about something called "envirome". The envirome is a big word that refers to all of the things around you that make up the environment- everything from the air you breathe to the plants and animals that live near you.

Imagine you're playing outside on a grassy field. You can see the trees and flowers around you, you can hear the birds and insects chirping, and you can feel the wind blowing through your hair. All of these things are part of the envirome!

But the envirome is more than just what you can see, hear, and feel. It also includes things you can't see, like the microbes (tiny living things) that live in the soil, air, and water. These microbes are really important because they help keep everything clean and healthy.

Another part of the envirome is the things that people make- like buildings, roads, and cars. These things affect the environment too, sometimes in good ways (like if we use clean energy to power our cars), and sometimes in bad ways (like if we pollute the air with car exhaust).

So that's the envirome in a nutshell- it's everything around us that we can see, hear, and feel, plus all the things we can't see, like microbes. It's important to take care of the envirome by being kind to nature, using clean energy, and reducing waste, so that we can all live healthy and happy lives!
