ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Environmental audit privilege

Environmental audit privilege is when a person or company is allowed to keep secret the information they find during an environmental audit. An environmental audit is like a secret mission to figure out if someone is being bad to the environment. Companies or people can do an environmental audit to see if they are doing things that might hurt the environment, like polluting.

Normally, if someone finds out about bad things happening to the environment, they have to tell the authorities. But with environmental audit privilege, if a company or person finds out about some bad things they were doing to the environment during an audit, they don't have to tell anyone. This is so that they can find out what they are doing wrong and fix it without getting in trouble with the law.

Environmental audit privilege is like a secret club where companies and people can talk about what they are doing wrong in secret, without getting in trouble. But the secret club doesn't last forever. If they don't fix what they were doing wrong, they can still get in trouble with the law later.
