Environmental noise is the sound we hear around us when we're outside or inside but near an open window. It can come from lots of things like people talking, cars driving by, birds singing, planes flying, dogs barking, and horns honking.
Imagine that you're playing in your backyard and you hear a car driving on the street nearby. The noise you hear is a type of environmental noise.
Sometimes, environmental noise can be too loud and it can make it hard for us to focus, hear important information or sleep.
Imagine that you're in a classroom and a friend starts singing loudly right next to you. It can be really hard to focus on the teacher talking or to know what your classmates are saying.
It's important to make sure that environmental noise is at a safe and comfortable level so we can enjoy our surroundings and stay healthy. We can do this by wearing headphones, closing windows, keeping the volume low on our TV or music, and sometimes by using earplugs.
