ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Equal Pay Act of 1963

Okay kiddo, so back in 1963, there was a law created called the Equal Pay Act. This law was made to make sure that people who do the same job and have the same skills and qualifications get paid the same amount of money, no matter if they are a boy or a girl.

So let's say there are two people named John and Jane. They both work at the same place and do the exact same job, but John gets paid more money than Jane even though they have the same skills and work just as hard. That's not fair, right?

The Equal Pay Act was made to make sure things like that don't happen anymore. It helps girls and boys, women and men, to be paid what they deserve for the work they do. So now when John and Jane do the same job, they will get paid the same amount of money. And that's important because everyone should be treated equally and fairly!
