Equinox

An equinox happens when the day and night are of almost equal length. This happens because of the way the Earth moves around the sun. The Earth is like a spinning top, and it's always spinning around an imaginary line called an axis. This axis is tilted at an angle of 23.5 degrees, which means that sometimes the Northern Hemisphere (the top half of the Earth) is tilted towards the sun, and sometimes it's tilted away from the sun.

During the equinox, which happens twice a year (around March 20th and September 22nd), the Earth is lined up in a way that makes the sun's rays shine equally on the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. This means that the sun is directly overhead at the equator and almost along the same plane as the Earth. The result is that we get almost equal amounts of daylight and darkness all over the world.

It's important to note that the equinox doesn't mean that the day and night will be exactly 12 hours long everywhere on Earth. This is because the Earth's atmosphere bends the sun's light, which causes the sun to appear above the horizon even when it's technically below it. Additionally, the length of daylight and darkness can be influenced by the altitude of the location and its proximity to the poles.
