ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Essentialism

Essentialism is the idea that things have basic, core features that make it what it is. For example, a chair is a chair because it has four legs and it is made for sitting. That makes it different from a table, which has four legs too, but it is designed for putting things on it. So even though both have four legs, their essential features - the things that make it what it is - are different.
