ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Ethics of uncertain sentience

Ethics of uncertain sentience is about how we treat things like animals or robots that might or might not have feelings. We have to decide if they can think, feel and understand things like we do. We might not know for sure if they can feel what we feel, so we have to decide how to treat them just in case they can. We should respect them and treat them well, like we would want to be treated, even if we're not sure if they can actually feel it.
