ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Ethnoecology

Ethnoecology is a big word that means the way people and nature connect and work together. When we talk about ethnoecology, we talk about how different cultures and communities understand and use their environments to survive and thrive.

Think of it this way: you know how you might have a certain way of doing things at home, like cleaning your room or cooking dinner? Different people and communities also have their own ways of doing things, but with their environment.

For example, some communities might have special knowledge about certain plants or animals that they use for medicine, food, or shelter. They might also have ways of taking care of their environment so that it remains healthy and strong.

Ethnoecology is important because it helps us learn about how different cultures interact with the environment, and can help us understand how to take care of our planet better. Just like you need to take care of your room and your belongings, people need to take care of their environment and the things that live in it.
