Evolution of the French Empire

Okay kiddo, let me explain how the French empire got to where it is today.

A long time ago, France was just a small country where people spoke French. But, as time went on, France became more powerful and started to explore other parts of the world, like North America, Africa, and Asia. This is called "colonization"-when one country takes over another one and starts to control it.

When France started colonizing, they set up colonies in places like Canada, Haiti, and Senegal. They wanted to control these places because they thought they could make money from them. They forced the people who lived there to work for them and sent resources like sugar, tobacco, and gold back to France.

Eventually, some of these countries fought back and demanded their independence from French control. For example, Haiti had a big revolution and gained their independence from France.

Today, some countries still speak French because of the colonization that happened a long time ago. France also still has some small territories around the world, like Martinique and French Guiana. However, they are no longer trying to set up new colonies or control other countries.

So, that's how the French empire evolved over time!
