ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Exciplex

An exciplex is a type of molecule made up of two separate parts, or “excited” parts. These two parts can be atoms or molecules, and each one is in an excited state. When the two parts get together, they form a new molecule called an exciplex. The two excited parts don’t combine to form one big molecule, but instead stay together like two friends who are holding hands. Exciplexes are often made in labs and are used for different things, such as getting energy or producing colors of light.
