Exclusive economic zone

An exclusive economic zone (EEZ) is a special area that is a part of a country's coast, but isn't part of the country itself. The country controls the waters within the EEZ and they have special rights to use the resources in that area, like fishing and energy sources like wind or waves. The EEZ also provides special protection for the fish and other animals that live in the water like sharks, dolphins, and whales.
