ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Expanded memory

Okay kiddo, so you know how some old computers had trouble running big programs because they didn't have enough memory or space in their brains?

Well, expanded memory was a special trick that some clever folks came up with to help those computers work better.

It worked kinda like magic - imagine you have a teeny tiny toy box, but you want to put a big toy in it. You could magic up a secret compartment in the box that only gets revealed when you need it, and then the big toy can magically appear there!

Similarly, computers with expanded memory have a special code that helps them create secret compartments in their memory. These compartments don't take up any space until a big program needs to use them.

So, when a big program runs, it can use the expanded memory without even knowing it's there! This means that the computer can run bigger programs without getting sluggish or crashing.

Pretty cool, huh?
