ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Experimental aircraft

Experimental aircraft are planes that people make and test in order to learn more about how planes work. They are called "experimental" because they are not like regular planes that you see flying in the sky all the time.

People who make experimental aircraft are usually scientists, inventors, or hobbyists who want to try new things and see what happens. They may want to test out new technologies, build a plane that is faster or more fuel-efficient, or just have fun creating something new.

When people are building an experimental aircraft, they have to follow certain rules and regulations to make sure that the plane is safe to fly. They have to do a lot of testing and make sure that all the parts are working properly before they can take off.

Once the plane is ready, the pilot will take it up into the air and see how it performs. They may take measurements, record data, and make notes about what they observe. This information can be used to make improvements or to create new designs in the future.

Experimental aircraft can be very exciting to look at and fly in. They often have unique shapes, colors, and designs. However, it is important to remember that they are not toys and should only be flown by experienced pilots who have been trained to handle them safely.
