ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Experimental political science

Experimental political science is like a science experiment where scientists try to understand how people behave in political situations. So, let's say we want to know if people are more likely to vote if they receive a text message reminding them to do so.

To find out, political scientists will set up a study where they randomly choose some people to get the text message and some people to not get the text message. Then, they will compare the number of people who vote in both groups to see if the text message made a difference.

These experiments are important because they help us understand the most effective ways to influence political behavior. Just like how scientists use experiments to figure out how to make medicine or build better machines, political scientists use experiments to figure out how to make our democracy better.
