ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Exploration geophysics

Exploration geophysics is a way to find out what is underground without actually digging. Scientists can use sound waves, electric signals, and magnetic fields to bounce off the walls of rocks and soil underground. They can measure how long it takes the signals to come back, and how strong they are. Then they can see what types of rocks are down there and if there may be things like oil or minerals.
