Extravehicular activity (EVA) is when astronauts go outside of their spaceship or space station into outer space. It's like when you go outside to play or walk around, but instead of being on Earth, you're floating in space!
Before astronauts go outside, they have to put on a special suit called an EVA suit. This suit has a helmet and backpack that helps them breathe and stay cool. The suit also protects them from the extreme temperatures and radiation in space.
Astronauts use special tools to fix things outside of the spaceship or space station. They might also take pictures or collect samples of space rocks. They have to be careful not to lose their tools or float away. That's why they attach themselves to the spaceship or space station with a special tether.
Going on an EVA is really exciting but it's also very dangerous. Astronauts have to be very careful and follow all the safety rules. They have to work together as a team to make sure everything goes smoothly. And when they're done, they have to come back inside the spaceship or space station to rest and eat some space food!
