ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Suitport

Okay, so have you ever seen an astronaut going out into space? They wear a really big suit that keeps them safe in the harsh environment of space. Now, when they want to come back into their spacecraft (where they live and work), they have to take off their suit and get into the spacecraft in their regular clothes.

But sometimes, taking off the suit can be a little tricky, especially if you're floating around in space. That's where the suitport comes in! It's like a little doorway on the side of the spacecraft that astronauts can use to take off their suits more easily.

When the astronaut gets back to the spacecraft, they first open the suitport. Then, they can take off their big space suit and toss it out of the suitport. Inside the suitport, they might have a smaller suit on, like a jumpsuit or something similar, to protect their body from the space environment. They can then climb inside the spacecraft in their smaller, more comfortable outfit.

Once they're inside and the suitport is closed, they can take off the smaller outfit and get back to their regular work clothes. So, the suitport makes it easier and safer for the astronauts to move from their big space suits into the spacecraft.
