ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Extreme poverty

Extreme poverty is when someone does not have enough money to meet their basic needs like food, water, shelter, and clothing. It means they have to live in very difficult conditions, with little or no access to healthcare, education, or other essential services.

Imagine you have a piggy bank with some coins in it, and you can use that money to buy yourself treats like candy, toys, or ice cream. Now imagine if you didn't have any money in your piggy bank, and you couldn't buy anything you wanted. You would feel sad, right? Well, that is how it is for people who live in extreme poverty. They cannot afford to buy even the most basic things they need to survive.

When people are in extreme poverty, they cannot afford to go to school, and many times, they have to work very long hours just to make enough money to buy food for their family. They also cannot afford medical care, so if they get sick, they have to live with it or find natural remedies because they can't pay for treatment. When people live in extreme poverty, they can't change their situation on their own because it is hard to escape the cycle of poverty.

That is why many organizations are working to help people in extreme poverty. They provide things like food, clean water, education, and healthcare. Some people also donate their money to help those in need. By helping those in extreme poverty, we can make the world a better place.
