Okay kiddo, have you ever heard of countries that are struggling a lot? They may not have enough food, clean water, or easy access to the things we have in our country. These countries are called the Least Developed Countries, or LDCs for short.
These countries often have lots of problems like poverty, low education, and weak economies. They lack the resources to help their citizens and have trouble developing industries that can sustain their people. The United Nations identifies them by considering a few things like income levels, health and education of their people, and how well the country is connected to the rest of the world.
The LDCs are usually in Africa, Asia, and some parts of the Pacific. People who live in these countries have a tough time finding good jobs and making enough money to take care of themselves and their families. They may have to work very hard to earn enough to afford things that we take for granted.
That's why people help the LDCs by sending aid, charity and supporting international organizations like the Terasaki Center. By helping these countries, we can make a real difference in the world and help those who are less fortunate than us.
