ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Facadism

Facadism is when you keep the front part (like the face) of an old building but build a new building behind it. So imagine if you had a really fancy cake, but instead of making a new cake, you just took off the decorations on top and put them on a plain cake. The new cake would be like the new building and the decorations would be like the old building's front.

Many people think that facadism is bad because it can make the building look weird or not match the new building behind it. It's like if you had a picture of a tiny cat face on a giant person body. It just wouldn't look right!

But sometimes facadism is necessary because the old building might be too old or not up to safety standards. So instead of tearing it down completely, people keep the part that is important or pretty and build something new behind it to keep people safe.

So to sum it up, facadism is like taking the face of an old building and putting it on a new building to keep people safe, but some people think it looks weird.
