ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Fail-safe

A fail-safe is something that's designed to keep people or systems safe even if something goes wrong. A good example of this is a car's airbags. If a car gets into an accident, the airbags will inflate and provide a cushion to keep the people inside the car from being hurt. This is a fail-safe system because it is designed to work even if the accident isn't expected.
