ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Interlock

Have you ever seen a puzzle where the pieces fit together perfectly, and you can't move one piece without moving the others? That's like an interlock!

In the grown-up world, an interlock can be a safety mechanism that makes sure machines or devices don't do dangerous things. For example, a car might have an interlock that makes sure you can't start the engine unless you're wearing your seatbelt.

The interlock works like this: when you sit in the driver's seat and close the door, the car's computer checks to see if your seatbelt is buckled. If it is, the interlock is "unlocked" and the car can start. But if your seatbelt isn't buckled, the interlock stays "locked" and the car won't start until you buckle up.

This way, you're always reminded to be safe and wear your seatbelt, and the car makes sure you can't drive without it. It's like a puzzle where the seatbelt and starting the car fit together perfectly, and you can't do one without the other!
