Dear little one, have you ever heard of saving money by not spending too much on something? It sounds like a good idea, right? However, sometimes when we try to save money and buy things for less money, it can turn out to be a bad idea. This is called a "false economy."
A false economy is when we try to save money by buying something cheap, even though it's not good quality. For example, let's say we need a new coat for winter. We can buy a cheap coat from a discount store for a cheap price, but it may not be warm and cozy, and it could break easily.
So, even though we spend less on this cheap coat, we may have to buy another coat again next year because the first one didn't last. In this case, we end up spending more money over time than if we had bought a really nice, warm, and cozy coat that would last us many winters.
So, my dear little one, it's important to remember that sometimes paying a little bit more upfront for good-quality items can save us money in the long run. Just because something is cheap, doesn't always mean it's worth it.
