Father Time

Father time is a make-believe man who people say controls the way time passes. He is often shown as an old man with a long beard, a cloak and a big old-fashioned clock. Father time is like a guard who keeps time moving forward and never lets it go back.

You know how you have a clock at home that tells you when it's time to wake up, eat or go to bed? Well, it's just like that, but Father Time is in charge of everyone's clocks at once!

Father Time is said to have been around for a very long time, and some say he has been around since the beginning of time. He is kind of like a big boss of all the time in the world.

You might hear people say that Father Time is "ruthless." That just means that he's really strict about making sure that time keeps moving forward and never backwards, and he doesn't really take into account how much we would like to slow it down or speed it up.

So, basically, Father Time is just a story we tell to help us understand how time works and why we don't have the power to control it.
