Feeding tube

A feeding tube is a special tube that goes into your tummy to give you food and drink when you can't eat or drink normally by mouth. Sometimes people get sick and their bodies can't handle food and drink in the usual way, so doctors put in a tube to help them get their nutrition the right way.

The feeding tube goes through your nose or mouth and down into your tummy. If you need it for a long time, the doctors may also put a small surgical hole in your tummy and guide the tube in through there.

Once the tube is in place, special liquid food called formula is poured into it using a syringe or a feeding pump. The food goes through the tube and into your tummy so you can get the nutrition you need.

Although using a feeding tube can be scary at first, it's important to remember that it's just another way to help you stay healthy and strong when eating and drinking the normal way isn't possible.
