ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Feldbahn

Feldbahn is a funny word. It's a German word that means "field railway". Imagine you're playing with your toy train set and you've set up tracks all around your room. Now, imagine that those tracks are outside, in a field, out in the countryside. That's a feldbahn!

Feldbahns have been around for a very long time, since the early 1900s. They were used by farmers and other people who lived and worked in the countryside to move things like crops, animals, and equipment from one place to another. Sometimes, they were even used to move people!

Feldbahns are usually much smaller than real trains, and they run on narrow-gauge tracks. This means that the tracks are closer together than on regular train tracks. Feldbahns can go through fields, forests, and even up hills because they are smaller and more nimble than big trains.

They often look like little toy trains, with tiny engines and cars that sit low to the ground. The engines can be powered by coal, steam, gas, or even electricity. Feldbahns have been used all over Germany and many other countries, and they are still used today in some places.

So, when you see a feldbahn, just remember that it's like a toy train set in the countryside, moving things around for people who live and work there.
