ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Figure drawing

Figure drawing is like playing dress-up with a paper doll. You have a special sheet of paper with an outline of a person on it, and the goal is to draw the clothes and how the person's body looks underneath.

But it's not just any person - it's usually a model who has posed for artists, so that the artists can practice drawing people realistically. The model will strike different poses and hold them for a while, while the artist uses pencils, charcoal or other materials to draw them.

The tricky part is that you have to make the drawing look like a real person, even though it's just lines on paper. So you have to think about how the body moves and looks, and pay attention to details like shadows and proportions.

But with practice, you can get really good at figure drawing and create beautiful representations of the human form. It's kind of like building a puzzle, but instead of fitting pieces together, you're using lines and shading to create something new and unique.
