ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Firearm

A firearm is a type of tool that makes loud noises and is used to shoot things. It's made up of a few different parts, including a metal tube (called a barrel) and a handle that you hold onto. When you want to use it, you put something called ammunition into the barrel - this is like a little bullet that's made of metal and has gunpowder inside.

When you pull a special part of the firearm called a trigger, the gunpowder inside the bullet explodes, and this makes the bullet fly out of the barrel really fast - this is what we call "shooting" the gun. Because the bullet is flying so fast, it can hit things that are far away from you.

Firearms come in many different shapes and sizes, from small pistols that you can hold in one hand to big rifles that you have to put on your shoulder. Some people use firearms for fun, like when they go to a shoot range and try to hit targets, while other people use them for things like hunting animals or protecting their homes.

It's important to remember that firearms can be very dangerous, and only grown-ups should use them with careful training and under the right conditions. It's also important to always be safe when handling firearms - never point them at anyone, keep them locked away when you're not using them, and always follow the rules that grown-ups tell you about how to use them.
