ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

First run (filmmaking)

When people make a movie or TV show, they have to do lots of things in a certain order. The very first time they do all of those things is called the "first run."

First, they come up with an idea for what the movie or show will be about. This might be a story they made up themselves or one they found in a book or somewhere else.

Next, they write a script, which is like a big long story with all of the words and actions that the characters will say and do.

Then, they pick the actors who will play the different parts in the story, and they tell them what to say and do by showing them the script.

After that, they find the places where they want to film the story, and they get all of the cameras and lights and other equipment ready to go.

Finally, they start filming the scenes, which means they tell the actors where to go and what to say and do while the cameras roll. They might have to film each scene a few times to get it just right.

When they're all done filming, they take all of the different parts and put them together in the right order to make the whole movie or TV show.

And that's how the first run of a movie or TV show is made!
