ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

First-run syndication

Okay kiddo, have you ever seen a TV show like "Jeopardy!" or "Wheel of Fortune" that comes on at the same time every day and is on a different channel than the regular TV shows? That's called first-run syndication.

When a TV show is first made, the people who make it have to decide where it's going to be shown. If they think it's going to be really popular and lots of people will want to watch it, they might sell it to lots of different TV stations all around the country. And those stations will show it at the same time every day, so people can watch it whenever they want.

That's different from regular TV shows that are made by big TV networks like NBC or CBS. Those shows are shown only on one network, and they come on at the same time every week. So if you miss an episode, you have to wait until the next week to see the next one.

First-run syndication shows are different because they can be watched whenever you want, and on lots of different channels. They're usually made by independent studios, which means they're not part of a big TV network. But they're still lots of fun to watch, especially if you like game shows or funny shows.
