ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Flame speed

Flame speed is how fast fire can spread or move. Imagine you are playing with a toy car that is on fire. When you light the car on fire, the flame will start in one place and then move to other parts of the car. The speed at which the fire moves from one part of the car to another is the flame speed.

Just like how your toy car has different materials that can burn at different speeds, different fuels and gases also have different flame speeds. Some fuels may burn really fast and some may take longer to catch fire and spread.

Flame speed is important to understand because it can help us know how quickly a fire may spread and how to control it. For example, if we know that a certain fuel has a very fast flame speed, we might want to be extra careful around it or have special equipment to put out the fire quickly.

Overall, flame speed is just like how fast fire can move and it can vary depending on the materials that are burning.
