Flour bleaching agent

Have you ever seen bread or cookies that are super white and look kinda weird? That's because they used a special thing called a "flour bleaching agent."

Flour is made from crushed up wheat, and it can sometimes be a little bit yellowish or grayish in color. Flour mills use a bleaching agent to make the flour look whiter and more like what we expect flour to look like.

There are different types of flour bleaching agents, but they all work in a similar way. They use a chemical that reacts with the flour and changes its color. Sometimes, these chemicals can also change the way the flour behaves when it's mixed with other ingredients.

Some people are worried that flour bleaching agents might be unhealthy, so some countries have banned them. But other people think they're fine to use in small amounts.

Either way, if you see bread or cookies that look super white, you can bet they probably used a flour bleaching agent.
