ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Flow velocity

Flow velocity is how fast something is flowing, like a river or a stream of water. Imagine you have a straw and you blow bubbles into a cup of water - the bubbles rise to the surface at a certain speed. That's how fast the water is flowing.

The faster the water is flowing, the quicker the bubbles will rise. This is also true for things like air, which can flow quickly or slowly.

Flow velocity is important for many things, like understanding how strong a river's current is or how fast an airplane is traveling. Scientists use special tools to measure flow velocity, like sensors that can detect the movement of water or air.

If you want to think about flow velocity more simply, just remember that it's how fast something is moving through a liquid or gas. So next time you're in the bathtub, take a moment to think about how the water is flowing - is it moving quickly or slowly?
