Fly plaid

A fly plaid is a piece of fabric that Scottish men wear over their shoulder as part of their traditional outfit called a kilt. It is called a "fly" plaid because it is hung or "flying" over the shoulder.

The fly plaid is made of a long piece of cloth that is usually made of wool or tartan (a pattern of different colored stripes). It is draped over one shoulder, and then the two corners of the fabric are fastened together using a clasp or a brooch, usually in the shape of a Scottish thistle or a Celtic knot.

Men may choose to wear a fly plaid if they are attending a formal Scottish event, like a wedding or a ceilidh (a traditional Scottish dance). It is often worn with a kilt jacket, waistcoat, and sporran (a small pouch worn on the front of the kilt).

In summary, a fly plaid is a piece of fabric worn over the shoulder by Scottish men as part of their traditional outfit, and it is called a "fly" plaid because it hangs or flies over the shoulder.
