ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Flying wing

Imagine you have seen one of those paper airplanes that are shaped like a triangle with two wings. Now, what if someone made a bigger paper airplane that was just one wing without any tail or body? This is what people call a flying wing.

The flying wing is an airplane without a tail or fuselage (the body of an airplane), but instead has a single wing that holds everything from the cockpit to the engines. It is designed to be efficient, with less drag (resistance to air) making it better suited for long flights or military missions that need speed and stealth.

Since there is no tail or body, the wing needs to be curved in a way that makes it stable in the air. Just like how you fold the tip of your paper airplane to make it fly straight, the wing of a flying wing is curved upwards towards the ends, which helps it to fly straight and stable.

Flying wings have been around for a long time, but the technology and design have improved over time. They are used for many purposes such as military surveillance, delivery of supplies in remote areas, and passenger transport.

Overall, flying wings are airplane designs that are very efficient and stable, with a single large wing that holds everything from the cockpit, engines, and payload, making it look like a giant paper airplane.
