Fomite

Okay, kiddo, so have you ever touched something that someone else touched before you? Like a door handle or a toy at school? Well, those items are what we call fomites.

A fomite is an object that can carry bad germs from one person to another. When someone with germs on their hands touches a fomite, those germs stick to the object. Then, when someone else touches the fomite, those germs can transfer onto their hands and make them sick.

That’s why it’s important to wash your hands often and to clean frequently touched surfaces like doorknobs and toys to prevent the spread of germs. So remember, fomites are items that can hold onto germs and make us sick, but with some good hygiene habits, we can stay healthy and happy!
