Fortified wine

Okay little one, so you know how grapes make juice and we can drink it, right? Well, sometimes instead of just making regular grape juice, we make something called fortified wine.

First, we take some grape juice and we add some alcohol to it, like brandy. The alcohol makes the wine stronger and more flavorful.

Then, we put the wine in a barrel, which is like a big wooden container. We let the wine sit in the barrel for a while, sometimes even years, while it gets even stronger and develops even more rich flavors.

The result is a special kind of wine that's called fortified wine, because it has extra alcohol in it. Some well-known types of fortified wine are Port, Madeira, and Sherry.

Fortified wine can be enjoyed on its own or used as an ingredient in cooking. It's also often served as a dessert wine because it's sweet and rich.

So there you have it, little one - fortified wine is like regular wine, but it's extra strong and flavorful because it has alcohol added to it, and it's left to age for a while in a barrel.
