Franklin stove

Okay kiddo, so a Franklin stove is a special kind of fireplace that was invented by a smart man named Benjamin Franklin a long time ago.

Before the Franklin stove, people used to have big open fireplaces in their homes. But that wasn't very efficient because most of the heat from the fire just went up and out the chimney instead of staying inside the house where people could feel it.

So Benjamin Franklin came up with an idea to create a stove that would keep the heat inside the house. The Franklin stove was made of metal and had a special design that helped it burn wood more efficiently. It had a door on the front and a pipe on the top that connected to the chimney.

When people lit a fire in the Franklin stove, the smoke and heat would go up the pipe and into the chimney, but the stove also had special baffles that forced the smoke to go back down and circulate inside the stove. This made the stove heat up the room more effectively and kept the house warmer.

The Franklin stove became very popular because it was much more efficient than traditional fireplaces. It used less wood and produced more heat, which was especially important in colder climates. Nowadays, most people use central heating to keep their homes warm, but the Franklin stove changed the way people heated their homes for many years.
