ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Free movement of workers

Okay kiddo, so you know how sometimes people move from one house to another? Well, imagine that instead of moving to a new house, they move to a different country. This is called migration.

Now imagine that this person wants to work in this new country but they don't have a job yet. Free movement of workers means that they can go to this new country and look for work without anyone stopping them. This is because there is an agreement between countries that allows people to move freely to any country in the agreement.

It's like when you go to a playground and you can play with any toy there. You don't have to ask anyone's permission. Similarly, people can go to any country in the agreement and work there without having to get permission from anyone.

This is really helpful because it means that people can go where the jobs are and country can get workers for jobs that they need but can't find people to do.

But this also means that sometimes people may leave their own country and go to another one. And this can make some people upset because they worry that people from other countries will take their jobs or change their way of life. But others think that it's good because it brings new ideas and cultures to a country.

So free movement of workers helps people go to where the jobs are and helps countries get workers they need. But it can also make some people worried.
